There
are several types of ponds that you may have in your backyard, and
there are therefore, different types of pond
supplies that you may need. Whether or not you have fish,
the type and number of fish you have, the type of plants, the climate
where you live, the size of your pond, and other such factors can
greatly determine the types of pond supplies that you should have.
For instance, if you live in a seasonal climate, you
are likely going to need a de-icer to thaw a hole in the ice and thereby
allow toxic gases to escape during the winter. During the fall, you
will likely seek the assistance of a pond net or cover to prevent
leaves from falling into your pond.
If you have a fish pond, you will need items like fish
food, and it is also more important to test and balance out the quality
of the water (often with special pond chemicals). An aerator (even
a fountain can work) may be necessary that the fish are getting enough
oxygen. Plants will also give your fish oxygen, food, and protection.
So, before you go out and purchase pond supplies, make
sure that you consider exactly what type of pond you have. The better
you know your own pond, the better you can be sure that you will be
able to care for it properly.
