Submersible pond pumps are perfect for small to medium ponds. When deciding which pump to buy, consider how many gallons of water your pond holds. It is important that the entire volume of your pond is recirculated every hour. Therefore, if you have a 600 gallon pond, you are going to want a 600 gph (gallon per hour) pump (or maybe even a 700 gph pump).

Also, if you have your pond stocked with fish, you consider having two pumps. This is because your fish need the water to be continually circulated. If one pump stops working or must be cleaned, you have the second pump to take over until something can be done. If you use both pumps at the same time, you can divide the work between them. In other words, for a 1000 gallon pond, you can use 2 submersible pond pumps that each have rates of 500 gph.
