While Mother Nature has spent many, many years perfecting ponds, we humans need pond supplies in order to maintain beautiful, thriving ponds. Fortunately, it is possible to create a "perfect pond" relatively quickly. All that is necessary is the right pond supplies. Please browse our selection of pond kits, chemicals, filters, liners, pumps, and fountains to find all the supplies you need.

Here at Pondepot.com, we have the pond supplies that you need any time of year. We have pond kits, filters, liners, pumps, deicers, heaters, water features, fountains, spitters, fish food, pond treatments, and more. We can't wait to work with you to create and maintain your outdoor oasis.

A koi fish pond can be a great addition to your pond. Consider adding decor like a bridge -just don't forget the fish food! You can find all of the tools you need for your garden pond such as fountains and streams, and of course aquatic plants. Pumps and spitters can create a beautiful waterfall in your pond. Buy the individual supplies, or the whole kit!

Spring is here! Your pond is finally beginning to wake up. What do you do?

It is important to inspect your pond and all of your pond equipment carefully. Replace any broken pipes and repair any holes or tears in your pond liner. Make sure that your pump still works well and that your filter is still operating.

Pumps need to be inspected often to make sure that they don't have any leaks or cracks. Be sure that you are going to be home for a while before you turn your pump on for the first time. Your pond can be quickly drained when there is a crack in the pump. You don't want to come home and find your fish laying in the bottom of your pond because all of their water has been pumped out.

Is your pump the proper size? It is important to have the correct pump for the size of your pond. Pond water should be completely recirculated every two hours. For example, if you have a 1000 gallon pond, you will need at least a 500 gph pump. Remember that if you are diverting part of your water to a water feature, you will need to get a larger pump so that you can still run all of your pond water through your filter every two hours. In our earlier example of a 1000 gallon pond, you would need at least a 1000 gph pump if you are running your water feature off of the same pump as your filter.

You will want to take your filter apart and clean it well. Now is the time to replace filter pads. Pads must be clean in order to properly filter your pond water. Make sure to order the appropriate pads for your filter.

Do you have all of the maintenance supplies that you will need for your pond? You may want to consider replacing nets, getting new pond gloves, and replacing any chemicals you still have from last summer. They have most likely lost some of their potency over the winter. It is best to dispose of them and start over.

Cleaning your pond is essential. Even if you used a pond cover during the fall and winter months, you probably still have some leaves that have collected in the bottom of your pond. You must remove these leaves before the water temperature begins to rise. As the temperature rises, the leaves will decompose more quickly and can create a toxic environment for your fish. You can clean the leaves out with a fine net or with a pond vacuum like the Matala Pond Vac II. After you have removed the leaves, you will need to add a sludge remover to help digest and remaining debris. MicrobeLift PL and Sludge Away are two popular brands.

What about your fish? They have been dormant through the winter. You may see them approaching the surface looking for food. You don't want to feed them until your water temperature is staying consistenly above 50F. It is best to start feeding them small amounts of food, usually every other day. You will want to begin feeding them wheat germ pellets. Once the water temperature is consistently above 55F you can begin to feed them the wheat germ pellets every day. Fish will need a higher protein food after the water temperature is consistently 65F or higher. You can then feed them twice a day if you have the proper filtration system in place. Don't forget, as your fish are awakening and wanting food, so are their predators. Many people choose to cover their ponds with bird netting to help protect their fish.

Once you begin feeding your fish, you will need to have a good water test kit. You will want to monitor the pH, KH, ammonia and nitrate levels on a regular basis. Be sure to have the appropriate treatments on hand to help you adjust the levels of your pond water. It is also important to keep a dechlorinator at all times. You never know when you will have to add water to your pond and you must use a dechlorinator any time you add water from your hose to your pond. Also remember that Algae grows quickly in warm water. Add barley straw now to keep algae from growing and keep some AlgaeFix on hand to treat any algae problems that arise.

Have you thought about your plants? It is time to bring up your plants that have been weathering in the deep water. You can divide or replant them if they have outgrown their pots. This is a great time to add new plants to your pond. Ideally, half of the surface of your pond will be covered with pond plants to provide your fish with protection from preditors and shade from the hot sun. Remember, you don't need to fertilize anything but your water lilies. Over-fertilizing your plants will disrupt the natural balances in your pond.

Spring is a great time to add interest to your pond with a waterfall, fountain, or spitter. We have many choices available that will add visual appeal to your pond. Don't forget lighting. The right underwater or landscape lighting can enable you to enjoy your pond day or night.

A pond is capable of being many things: a thriving ecosystem, a backyard oasis, a beautiful garden accent, and a favorite hobby. As a result, different people will love ponds for different reasons.
